Open Thread: Randy Pausch -- The Last Lecture

______

"The brick walls are there for a reason ... to show us how badly we want something," he said. "Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don't want it badly enough. They're there to stop the other people."

______

Randy Pausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon University, died yesterday of cancer. He was -- and remains -- a true inspiration to millions. The video is long, but very inspirational and entertaining. From the YouTube page:

______

Carnegie Mellon Professor Randy Pausch (Oct. 23, 1960 - July 25, 2008) gave his last lecture at the university Sept. 18, 2007, before a packed McConomy Auditorium. In his moving presentation, "Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams," Pausch talked about his lessons learned and gave advice to students on how to achieve their own career and personal goals. I made my kids watch that

the first time I saw it. I hope they learned something from it. Maybe I'll make them watch it again now that he has passed.

CTMan1

What did they think? Did they talk much about it?

I'm not sure

if the only thing that my oldest took away from it is that she should be ale to do whatever she wants to her bedroom walls? She was the only one that had the attention span to watch the whole thing.(update) I just wanted to be clear that I was kind of kidding there. I just told my daughter what I was writing and why. She knew who I was talking about right away. I guess she did pay attention to that video.

It was very enlightening.

Long, but good.
