Open Thread: Supply Emergency Edition

So, according to a piece in Reuters, George W. Bush said:

_____

...there was no quick fix to lowering record fuel prices and that oil in the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve should be saved for supply emergencies.

_____

Would an airstrike on Iran interrupt supply long enough to constitute a "supply emergency" -- and could that be why there's such a push for more oil-drilling offshore and in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge? How long would it take from the time the ink dries to the time the first rigs would be able to start pumping oil out of the ground? ...and would the Strategic Oil Reserve hold us over until then? If so -- even if only just so -- then perhaps we have yet another piece in place for the games masters to edge closer toward their goal of one more strategic bombing campaign... This is an Open Thread.

Response to

the Driller's oil plan from the Dem Caucus' Journal. Haven't seen anything close in the dread "MSM". Well, with gas costing so much, and all the cutbacks to newsrooms, guess they figure it's just as easy to "google" it in.

That's pretty detailed.

And it doesn't look like all the offshore drilling or the ANWR drilling would help one whit. Makes ya wonder why folks are wasting our time on such fiascos...

Bushanity

Strategic Oil Reserve" Represents if I'm not mistaken approx 30 days of US oil consumption. Since it will take years to get any oil from the OCS it won't represent even a drop in the bucket. No the "cabal" figures on taking over Saudi or such like right after bombing Iran. http://www.truthout.org/video/bill-moyers-it-was-oil-all-along

Thanks for the link, Peter1a

very interesting stuff.

Didn't Bush himself admit this morning that

it wouldn't make any difference, but would be good for morale or something ridiculous like that...?

Yep -- in the same article linked to above in the story.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush said on Tuesday there was no quick fix to lowering record fuel prices and that oil in the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve should be saved for supply emergencies. "The SPR is for emergencies," Bush told reporters at a White House news conference. He said "there is no immediate fix" to lowering record-high fuel prices.

Another great quote from the piece, by Congressman Ed Markey:

_____

"Four-dollar gasoline, bogged down in a war in Iraq, the economy entering a recession, the stock market down more than 15 percent since January, the housing market in crisis, banks failing, the highest inflation in almost 30 years, and he still doesn't think we're in an emergency?"

Bubble-boy Bush rides again.
