The Trouble with Tasers

I first became interested in this subject back in 2007. At that time, a University of Florida student (Andrew Meyer) had attended a speech by Senator John Kerry and asked him questions afterwards. The student had asked Senator Kerry a series of questions that Kerry was perfectly ready, willing and able to answer, however the police at the event didn’t approve of the things Meyer has said. They cut the power to his microphone, threw him on the ground, pinned him, handcuffed him and then used a taser to assault him.

The Heirs of Joseph Goebbels

Promoted by GH. Originally posted 2009-06-15 14:04:50 -0400.

Joseph Goebbels was Adolf Hitler's propaganda minister from 1933 to 1945. In that position, he perfected an understanding of the "Big Lie" technique of propaganda, which is based on the principle that a lie, if audacious enough and repeated enough times, will be believed by the masses.

Goebbels used modern propaganda techniques to psychologically prepare the German people for aggressive war and the annihilation of civilian populations. Among other propaganda devices, he accused many of Germany's ethnic and national minorities (such as the Poles, the Jews, the French) of trying to destroy Germany.

Is there really any significant difference between the propaganda of Joseph Goebbels in the 30s and 40s, and the propaganda of people like Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh?

A Nation of Suckers

Imagine you bought a used car back in 2003 and after driving it around for a few months you discovered that the odometer had been rolled back, the airbags had been deployed and never replaced, the spare tire in the trunk was bald and the transmission had been so badly abused that it burnt out in six months.

Would you buy another used car from the same salesman?

Hopefully, after getting burned by the same salesman once, you would never trust him a second time. Sadly, people in America seem to like being suckered.

Protect and Defend

"I John McCain do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic."

This is the oath John McCain will have to swear if he is declared winner of America's presidential election in November of 2008. Every American president since George Washington has had to take the same oath. It is an American tradition that defines us even more so than baseball and Mom's apple pie. If the Constitution of the United States is not preserved, protected and defended, then this country isn't really the land of democracy that America's founding fathers created and wished to preserve.

However, it would seem that John McCain has no respect for America's founding fathers, or the U.S. Constitution which every president must swear and oath to defend.

Christians who hate Christ

It is not typically my style to write editorials or news stories about religion. Religion typically inspires people to emotional reactions rather than intellectual thought, however this time I have a point about America's political and corporate leadership that requires me to examine what the Bible said and how loyally the Republicans and Right-Wingers have followed the dictates of Jesus Christ.

You see, the Republicans of my lifetime (1966 up until present day) have been very fond of claiming that the Christian God is on their side and that they're doing the Lord's work. George W. Bush even went so far as to claim that his favorite philosopher was Jesus Christ. But really, when you read the words of Jesus Christ how well do the Republicans walk the walk? What would Jesus Christ say about Republicans such as Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush or Rush Limbaugh?
