DAYTON – For the fourth straight year, the Dayton Christian Center (DXC) will partner with the United Way of Dayton’s Volunteer Connection Center to host youth volunteers as they join forces for Global Youth Service Day. This year, Global Youth Service Days occur on April 15 and 16 with the DXC Bright Youth, Better Dayton project taking place on Friday, April 15.

As with last year’s project, the young people will be going about the neighborhood around DXC picking up trash and generally cleaning up the environment. Each student will be issued protective gloves and bright, reflective vests for safety reasons.

“Our mission statement is ‘Enriching and Empowering Lives, One Choice at a Time,’ DXC Associate Executive Director Sarah Williams said recently. “We see that as a quality of life issue as well as quantity. We feel that a nicer, cleaner, more attractive neighborhood is also a safer one, and one where people can enjoy life more and take more pride in it, too.”

DAYTON – A few weeks ago, it was just an empty lot beside an empty building; not much good to anybody. But in a few weeks, what was an eyesore and wasteland will transform into a source of food and education for Dayton residents.

“[Our purpose] is kind of two-fold,” said Feed Dayton Director Ken Carman. “The one is to grow high-nutrition food locally for the hungry. And then the complimentary element is we're also wanting to educate, train and equip people to either become urban farmers or at least to have backyard gardens.”

DXC operates a state-licensed Childcare program for 36 families in the Dayton area. As part of that program, the center offers three nutritionally balanced meals five days per week.

Seriously. Is it terrorism yet?

The Christian militia group, the one that a Tea Party site claimed as their own, that was the big story of the weekend because of reported raids by a small army of various policing forces in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois were plotting to attack the police:

Alleged militia members indicted for plotting attack on police

6 Michiganders, 3 others face weapons of mass destruction charges

The indictment unsealed in U.S. District Court today claims that the Hutaree planned to kill an unidentified member of local law enforcement and then attack the law enforcement officers who gather in Michigan for the funeral. According to the plan, the Hutaree would attack law enforcement vehicles during the funeral procession with improvised explosive devices rigged with projectiles, which constitute weapons of mass destruction, according to the announcement by U.S. Attorney Barbara L. McQuade.

H/T clammyc and just so you know: One of these right wing terrorists is still on the loose.
