Palin to quit as Alaska governor at end of July

Via the Anchorage Daily News:

Gov. Sarah Palin announced today that she will resign in a few weeks. Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will take over at the Governor's Picnic in Fairbanks on July 26.

"People who know me know that besides faith and family, nothing's more important to me than our beloved Alaska," Palin said.

No word on any new Palin scandals about to break... Yet. Paydirt from Brad Blog?

EXCLUSIVE: PALIN RESIGNATION 'DAMAGE CONTROL' FOR COMING 'ICEBERG SCANDAL' ... MORE: EMBEZZLEMENT INDICTMENTS COMING?

Okay, I've now been able to get independent information from multiple sources that all of this precedes what are said to be possible federal indictments against Palin, concerning an embezzlement scandal related to the building of Palin's house and the Wasilla Sports Complex built during her tenure as Mayor. Both structures, it is said, feature the "same windows, same wood, same products." Federal investigators have been looking into this for some time, and indictments could be imminent, according to the Alaska sources.

The BRAD BLOG has not been able to receive confirm from any federal sources on this. Our information comes from local Alaskans who follow Palin, and who have been keeping an eye on this for some time, while keeping it quiet at the request of federal investigators.

Palin recently received a dubious honor from the press, beating out disgraced former Governor Rod Blagalphabet of IL and numerous other worthy nominees:

Our governor has won the prestigious ”Sitting Duck Award,” given out annually by the National Society of Newspaper Columnists to the “most ridiculed newsmaker in America.”

Whew.

Past president Mike Leonard, a columnist for The Herald Times of Bloomington, Ind.: “As a Hoosier, I feel that she’s done something that Dan Quayle could never do. Which was to make Dan Quayle look good. … After the election, the video of Sarah and the poultry processing factory … that pretty much says it all. The gift that keeps on giving.”

If we’re going to be put through all the drama, the craziness, and the scandal, the least we should get is an award for it.

I am certain we will read more about Palin in the news in the future... But I have a feeling that Palin will not enjoy it.

Below the fold and via the political carnival,Palin's near incoherent ramblings at the presser:

Jaquan's picture

For 17 years after that, Alaska was without any formal government. First the area was presided over by the War Department, then the U.S. Treasury, and then the Navy Department. Finally, in 1884, Congress passed the first Organic Act, which defined Alaska as a civil and judicial district and allowed for a governor, a code of laws, and a federal court. Alaska Legislature agreed to approve a one-time resource rebate that returns part of our resource wealth to Alaskans --the owners in common of these resources. The rebate will be a direct payment of $1,200 to each Alaskan eligible for the 2008 Permanent Fund Dividend. The resource rebate was part of a larger energy package that also includes a 50% increase in the maximum loan amount for bulk fuel bridge and bulk fuel revolving instant cash loans funds to communities and cooperatives. Additionally, it suspends the state's 8-cent motor fuel tax on gasoline, marine fuel and aviation fuel for one year and strengthens the Power Cost Equalization Program.
