Food for Thought on Primary Day" McCain's Views on Judges
This is one of my broody Tuesday's. No need to say more about THAT. Except...an interesting post for those of you who are washing your hands of this years presidential election. From hte McClatchy Washington Bureau comes this gem McCain vows to name more 'Alitos' and 'Robertses.' As McCain might say, "My friends, please take notice."
In outlining his philosophy, McCain hoped to make clear his common cause with the conservative activist base of his party. For them, the judiciary is a huge issue, but many regard McCain with suspicion. One reason was his decision to join the so-called "Gang of 14," a bipartisan group of Senate moderates that sought to avoid filibusters in attempting to win confirmation of several of Bush's judicial appointees.McCain defended the group's effort in his speech, noting that most of Bush's appointees were confirmed, including Justices Roberts and Alito. He blamed Democrats for blocking many Bush nominees, ignoring the fact that the Republican-controlled Senate blocked dozens of Bill Clinton's judicial nominees during the 1990s.
He said his own appointments would be "in the cast" of Roberts, Alito and the late Chief Justice William Rehnquist; "jurists of the highest caliber who know their own minds, and know the law, and know the difference."

Same old song...............
maybe it's time for Pat Robertson to say a prayer!
Don't use the fear tactics on me
because it won't work. In the first place, until the last year, Bush has had an incredibly high rate of judges confirmed and has more recently chosen to nominate people who have no earthly chance of being confirmed. Why? It is a ploy to anger and rally the base. Big deal, that is politics. The Democrats have a duty to oppose nominees who are too extreme and even though they have failed to do so too many times in the past, it is time for the Democrats to prove themselves worthy of my support. If McCain gets elected, the Democrats can either act as the opposition party and protect the ideals of the party or play their usual role as all talk, no backbone. But I'll be damned if I will cast one more vote for a person I don't believe in irrespective of a party. Democrats have not earned my respect any more than Republicans.
If the voters don't wake up some day, the nation deserves what it gets with the officials they elect.
