Airline Baggage Fees
Expecting to travel this summer? How 'bout them new baggage fees to keep up with rising oil prices?
United Airlines, US Airways latest carriers to charge for checked bag
San Francisco Business Times, June 13, 2008
United Airlines and US Airways will become the second and third major U.S. carriers to charge passengers $15 for their first checked bag. [...]
First-class and business customers, as well as passengers who have premier status with United or Star Alliance, will not pay the fee.
Kinda like those humongous SUV's and pickups with the tax break incentive even though they chew up federal highways with added wear and tear.

Don't want to start a "class war"
or nuttin, but I keep hating how the folks who need it the least get the "breaks" -- fee waivers and tax subsidies (hoho, now that is some true social welfare cheat... ya think?).
I don't know what to think
It's like free checking and overdraft protection for those with large accounts and hefty fees that compound problems for those who don't.
At a time when I was really struggling financially, I can remember getting hit with $60 in bank fees. $20 for being below the minimum and of course at the time I only had $19 in my account. So then I was overdrawn by $1. Which they charged me $20 for pushing me down to negative $21. The remaining $20 was for the monthly account fees because I didn't have free checking -- because I didn't have the minimum balance.
So, the bank docked me another $20 so that I had negative $41 in my account.
