From C4AF's Eric Loftke, that's Gerrymandering with a hard G:
Gerrymandering goes far to explain why dissatisfaction is so high, debate is so partisan and problems so unsolved. An elected official in a seat designed for safe reelection need do nothing else. Politicians in gerrymandered districts pick their constituents, not the other way around.
I especially like the scene with Peter Wagner of the Prison Policy Initiative describing a city council seat in tiny Anamosa, Iowa. The council member is elected with only two votes, his neighbor and his wife. Everyone else who makes up his districts is in a nearby prison. They can’t vote but they still count for purposes of political apportionment. Prison-based gerrymandering brings “representation without population,” Wagner complains.
I learned something else about gerrymandering. I’ve been saying it wrong, all these years (though I probably still will). It’s pronounced with a hard G, named after colonial era governor Elbridge Gerry, hard G, who redrew his state’s district lines in 1812 to secure party advantage. A period newspaper observed that the district map looked like a salamander, and dubbed it a “Gerry-mander.”
And with another Census recently behind us... A little reminder that s/he who controls redistricting controls the future of voting results to a large degree. Just ask Tom DeLay. Even if his efforts were pretty darned illegal when taken on its proven face value:

I was surprised to learn that an African American woman has NEVER been elected to a full term to represent the state of Alabama in the House of Representatives.
My goal today is to help change that.
When last I wrote about one of my heroes, Rosa Parks, it was to illustrate how the right would roll back the Civil Rights act to allow discrimination in the name of economic freedom.
145 years after the Civil War, much has changed, but more should change, until we truly achieve the Change We Can Believe In!.
In 2010, it is finally time to elect an African American woman to a full term in Congress to serve the State of Alabama in the House of Representatives!
More below the fold
[ed. note - CM1] Thank you to Movement Vision's sallykhon for permission to reproduce this humorous piece of citizen journalism and for daring to enter the world of extreme nuttiness that is the tea party, videoing it and still coming out with her sanity intact.
I’ve never been to a tea party. Really. Not even as a little girl. Was never my thing. So when I decided I was going to infiltrate the Tri-State Liberty Summit of Tea Party activists, my first question was: What do I wear? Unfortunately, my frilly cocktail dress was at the cleaners so I had to go with my usual “Is she a boy or a girl?” attire. Good news is, the Tea Party activists were unfazed by my gender-bending sweater vest. All they seemed to care about was that I was white.
Because in the flurry of red, white and blue sentiment that filled the Italian American Center of Stamford, Connecticut, on May 23, 2010, the most prominent color was definitely white. White people with ghostly white faces fearing that our new black President is only one sooner-than-expected sign of the approaching end of white racial dominance in America.
Watch this secret video, including shocking footage of FreedomWorks Chair Rep. Dick Armey:
Memo to Rand Paul, the jig is up.
A few days ago I posted about how Nazis and White Supremacists are campaigning for and donating to Rand Paul's Senatorial campaign
Paul named a former campaign consultant Jesse Benton as campaign manager for the November election. Benton worked for Paul's father, Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul, when he ran for president in 2008.
Now here is the juicy part. It turns out that Jesse Benton was the guy who was the lead point man in issuing the non rejection of Ron Paul's Nazi donation that he received from Don Black, who is notorious as an ex KKK grand wizard and founder of the white supremacist website Stormfront.org
I thought the last post on Palin and Paul would have been it... But, h/t to jimstaro, I believe this may be "The One":
Politicians aren't known for being the humblest bunch. But there's a Tea Party-backed candidate for Congress whose ego-boosting seems to have gone a step further than usual. Tim D'Annunzio, a Republican candidate in North Carolina's Eighth District, has actually claimed to be the Messiah, according to sources in court documents.
Providing even further proof that real life can be funnier than anything even The Onion can make up... Sarahcuda circles the "lamestream media" like a blind and toothless fish out of water:chasing her own tale:
A reader points out that one of the fed-up claims in Sarah Palin's defense of Nikki Haley -- that the "lamestream media" reported she was "living in the Hamptons" -- refers to a pretty blunt and obvious satire in a local New York publication, Dan's Papers.
Just be thankful that she is as clueless as a political and ideological foe as we could ever hope for. We can only hope for this kind of idiocy from her Kentucky ideological clone, Rand Paul.
[ed note - CM1] Welcome MinistryOfTruth who has graciously accepted an invitation to post some material here. And enjoy! I know I do.
This must be seen across America. Stormfront.org, which was founded to support David Duke for senate by another KKK Grand Dragon, Don Black, has been promoting and contributing to Rand Paul's moneybombs. Palling around with WhiteSupremacists much?
That's a tweet from Don Black, head of the white supremacist group Stormfront. Wow.
So, Trey Grayson should reject donations from Republicans who voted for the bailout........but it's okay for Rand Paul to accept donations from Stormfront? genuineGOPmom.blogspot.com
I will state this loudly and clearly. Over and over at the top of my Jewish lungs.
Rand Paul MUST return Neo-Nazi funds NOW and DENOUNCE Stormfront.org
But he can't. Democrats MUST turn 2010 into a referendum on Rand Paul. So, let's see how deep the rabbit hole goes.
This analysis looks behind the scenes at how the ban on offshore drilling was lifted and what that had to do with the ultimate prize for big oil, the American Power Act. It focuses on the current administration. That in no way implies that the problem originated in January 2009. The out sized and destructive influence of the oil monopoly has been with us for since the 1870's.
Banning Offshore Drilling
In 1969 a Unocal oil rig off the coast of Santa Barbara, California began leaking oil. The extent of the leak, damage to wildlife, and the shoreline caused considerable outrage. The state of California banned offshore drilling shortly after the leak. In 1980, Congress banned offshore drilling in most federally controlled waters. President George H.W. Bush reluctantly banned off shore drilling in 1990 for California, Florida, Oregon and Washington and in the North Atlantic.
