Originally posted Sat, 06/28/2008 - 07:42, bumping as this contains an important message and request for veterans. Even if you are not a veteran but know one that could help and benefit from this, pass it along - standingup
The beginning of this is an attempt to bring you up to speed on what has been going on this past year leading up to the purpose of this post, a New Investigation on Veterans Care, and the request for those listed in the subject title to get involved with, especially the Veterans having their troubles with the VA and their Care.
Back in July of 2007 the Law Firm of Morrison & Foerster, with help from the legal staff at Disability Rights Advocates, filed a Class Action Lawsuit on behalf of Veterans for Common Sense and Veterans United for Truth against the Veterans Administration of these United States. A lawsuit, I might add, that shouldn't have found a need for!
You can find out more, for those who haven't followed this, at the DRA website here: Nationwide Class Action Against the VA or at the Veterans for Common Sense and Veterans United for Truth sites.
Back in January, of this year, Melissa, a lawyer with DRA Legal posted a Real Good News diary on the progress of the lawsuit to that point.
Very recently what some may see as a setback, this Vet. thought this was coming, the Judge in the case made a ruling. I posted a ShoutOut for Action to the citizens of this Country, who the Military Serve, on this setback, but not Defeat! The Soldiers and Veterans Need the Total Involvement of the Citizens of this Country they Serve, They Always Have, but there also is Always Not Enough Sacrifice from same and definantly not the numbers needed to give back what should Not Needed To Be Fought For, the Support and Gratitude of this Nation for those who Sacrifice, up to their Lives, to Serve and Protect!
Here is a News Report on the recent ruling by the Judge:

Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., says she wants "honesty, openness, and directness" from the Dept. of Veterans Affairs, and says Dr. Ira Katz, the VA's top official for mental health, should step aside.

While waiting for a Video Link at ABC News I went over to see if the CBS Report, that some of us knew was coming for a few days now, was up yet, the report was there sans the video with Carissa Picard, of Military Spouces for Change but I found a few more, one with the family members.
Carissa sent out and posted the report she was interviewed for as well as that video, you will find them all below with linkbacks to the reports.
A new study found that 1 in 5 U.S. troops suffer from depression or post traumatic stress disorder from service in Iraq and Afghanistan. Randall Pinkston comments. |

Lets See Now, 'Supporting The Troops'
Submitted by: jimstaro on Sun, 03/02/2008 - 09:07
What do those three words really mean in this ever so Rich, Powerful, and Patriotic Country of Ours, not to mention Supposedly Christian as well?
Is it just the mouthing of?
If a politician, which some call a profession, is it the wearing of a Flag Lapel Pin?
I have one I wear on my Veterans For Peace ballcap Turned Upside Down!!!
Is it little cheap Magnetic Yellow Ribbons that have those words printed on them, and seem to have rapidly disappeared?
We once had a conflict, we have 'The Wall' of remembrance of 58,000 lives lost in that conflict.

Just One Base?

I Think Not!
Today we get another followup report Report Faults Mental Care for Iraq Veterans at Upstate Base
Seems as these reports keep coming they all can be considered 'followups', one after the other after the other after the other....., building to what is actually happening to our Military, but Especially the Military Personal that serve, so it seems, not the Country but the whims of the Civilian and some Military Leadership as well as Ideologies not followed by the Majority, as the Nation of Apathy tunes out to their Service and the Care given for same!
WATERTOWN, N.Y. — The four tours in Iraq served by the Second Brigade at Fort Drum here have created an unusual level of stress, especially after the standard Iraq tour was increased to 15 months from 12. Yet according to a new report on the shortcomings of mental health care at the base, a soldier’s wait to be seen for psychological help can take more than a month.

Could this be another case of PTSD or TBI, it hasn't been reported, as yet, on wether this soldier was an Iraq or Afgan, or both, Veteran.
