Just a simple question...
Submitted by: GreyHawk on Fri, 07/18/2008 - 06:24
I have a simple question for everyone. Please pass it around and ask everyone you meet, 'cuz it's kind of important:
Do war crimes count as "impeachable offenses"?
See, I always thought they were included as "high crimes and misdemeanors" along with dereliction of duty, negligence, sedition, lying to Congress and stuff like that -- in fact, they kinda qualified for "over and above" status.
So, I ask again:
- Do war crimes count as "impeachable offenses"?
And a follow-up:
- If not, Why Not?
Additionally,
- If not, then What does?
I'm just wondering what I should be prepared to tell any future generations when they ask what the hell we were thinking by allowing this fiasco to go on for so long, unchecked and unchallenged.
It may be a moot point, of course -- future generations may not get past the "What the hell did you think would happen to the environment?" question as they paddle around, starving, trying to find dry land and potable water.

Kucinich's fight to impeach Bush - Part I

July 16, 2008
American News Project: Kucinich's Fight to Impeach Bush - Part I : Rep. Dennis Kucinich continued his seemingly quixotic crusade to impeach President Bush last week. But with Speaker Pelosi suggesting the House Judiciary Committee may hear his argument, Kucinich might get his day very soon.

Pakistan Bananastan
Submitted by: Jeff Huber on Tue, 02/26/2008 - 10:17
Pakistan, it appears, has replaced Afghanistan as the world's top Bananastan.
You may remember "Afghanistan bananastan" from the 1972 film The Hot Rock, in which thief Robert Redford uses the phrase to put vault guards into a hypnotic trance. Today, a "Bananastan" is (largely by my decree) a South Asian equivalent of a South American Banana Republic. Don't confuse a Bananastan with a Bananaraq, which is a Southwest Asian Banana Republic, or with the Barbecue Republic, which is the United States.
Like a Banana Republic, Pakistan is rife with corruption and has been ruled of late by a puppet (albeit an often uncooperative puppet) of the Barbecue Republic who has run roughshod over his country's constitution and judicial system; which, come to think of it, makes the Bananastan a lot like the Barbecue Republic, too. In many ways, in fact, Pakistan objectifies all that has failed in American foreign policy, and in America itself, over the past seven years and change.

Video: Wexler Confronts Condi on Iraq War Lies; Calls for Contempt Vote (reprinted w/permission)
Submitted by: GreyHawk on Wed, 02/13/2008 - 20:10
The following message is reprinted with permission from Congressman Wexler's office.
:: ::
Today, in hearings on Capitol Hill, I confronted Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on her role in the lies, exaggerations, and misdirection that led us into the Iraq war.
During my questioning, Secretary Rice falsely stated that she never saw intelligence casting doubt on the Bush Administration claims that Saddam possessed weapons of mass destruction. This unbelievable statement is flatly contradicted by numerous government reports and CIA testimonials.
Sources such as the 2006 Senate Intelligence Report, a January 2004 Carnegie Endowment for International Peace report as well as former CIA agents (including Tyler Drumheller) have disclosed that there was contrary intelligence to the information provided to the Bush Administration in the lead up to the Iraq war.

Time to put impeachment back on the table
Submitted by: clammyc on Thu, 12/06/2007 - 12:51
Joe Biden said it recently about bombing Iran and impeachment. Hell, some loudmouth said it back in February as well. But we can’t afford to wait for the smoking gun about whether we will bomb Iran to be the mushroom cloud over Iran, right?

And A Little Child Shall Lead Them...
Submitted by: GreyHawk on Thu, 11/29/2007 - 12:29
This piece was originally published on the older ePluribus Media scoop site on Sat Nov 24, 2007 at 12:07:25 PM EST, in addition to several other locations. I was unable to post it here at that time. I am now remedying the situation; relax. You are not experiencing deja-vu if you saw this article before.
A famous US patriot once said "These are the times that try men's souls." At the time, he spoke of the events and circumstances surrounding the birth of a nation destined to be defined by the rights and freedoms of the people; a nation led by government of the People, by the People and for the People, where leaders could inspire the People to stand united in spite of differing opinions or particular religious influence.
The advent of the twenty-first century has marked the most severe departure from our founding principles than ever before. We stand on the brink of self-immolation, leaderless and adrift, while selfish, arrogant hypocrites steer our ship of state toward the shoals.
Should we fail now to grow resolute and united in our determination to right this ship, we fail not only ourselves but our children, and their children's children.
It is time to look to those children for inspiration and a reminder of what we, as adults, are tasked with as parents and guardians: to create and foster an environment where children can grow to adulthood, secure in the knowledge that we have passed along the best models for ethical leadership and responsible stewardship of this nation that we know how.
