In an article entitled "Equal share in land, property for women urged" by Sikander Shaheen in The Nation (Pakistan) details a campaign by ActionAid within Pakistan, urging equal property rights for women.  (ActionAid is an international anti-poverty organization that has been in operation for over 30 years.)

What's Behind the Pig with Lipstick Story?

Google News features 884 stories in Top News Stories on the latest manufactured flap by the McCain team. They are accusing Barack Obama of sexism, because of a remark he made during a recent speech. You can listen to the excerpt from Obama's speech, or read a solid piece covering the flap by Jimmy Orr in the Christian Science Monitor election blog.
“John McCain says he’s about change too, and so I guess his whole angle is, ‘Watch out, George Bush – except for economic policy, health care policy, tax policy, education policy, foreign policy, and Karl Rove-style politics – we’re really gonna shake things up in Washington.” “That’s not change,” Obama continued before launching the land mine. “That’s just calling something, the same thing, something different. You know you can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig.”

Republican Attack Machine Targets Another Woman

Nick Benton runs syndicated columnists in the Falls Church News Press, and one of the regulars is Maureen Dowd. Lot's of time she ticks me off 'cause I really dislike her kind of snide commentary, however in this case... She makes some good points on a topic that really gets me mad--how the hate machine is going after Michelle Obama. And I am truly nonpartisan on this subject. I definitely think that Laura Bush, as opposed to her husband, definitely does show a human side sometimes. Yeah I know it is kept carefully hidden. Anyway, I suggest you give her piece a read. The title is Mincing Up Michelle. Nick ran it in this weeks paper, but it originally aired on June 11.
