Media Matters: CNN, Fox Mislead Viewers About Bush Administration's Misleading Iraq-Al Qaeda Link

From Media Matters:

_____

In June 5 reports on CNN's The Situation
Room
and Fox News' Special Report, CNN correspondent Carol Costello, CNN White House correspondent Ed Henry, and Special Report host Brit Hume falsely suggested that only the Democratic members of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence approved the committee's June 5 "Report on Whether Public Statements Regarding Iraq by U.S. Government Officials Were Substantiated by Intelligence Information." In fact, the report had bipartisan support: Republican Sens. Chuck Hagel (NE) and Olympia Snowe (ME) endorsed the report and stated that it "accomplished its primary objective." As Costello noted, the report concluded that "the Bush administration misused intelligence to build its case [for war in Iraq] in 2003 and misled Americans about links between Iraq and Al Qaeda."

_____

Aren't we getting a little old for this?

Hasn't enough blood been spilled while people play their games of misinformation and propaganda, just to score political points and win the ability to commit even more heinous crimes on our watch?

This is exactly the sort of poor, inaccurate and untruthful information that explains why the traditional media is losing ground to blogs, and it helps explain the growing support and popularity behind the rise of the blogosphere and citizen journalists.

CNN Shows Fangs All INn the Name of FUN

In the category of how lo can you sink, CNN'senior political analyst, Jeanne Moos brought the campaign down a notch with an ostensibly humorous spot on the campaign, in which clips of the three front-running candidates shown speaking with arms outstretched, poiting emphatically. CNN has added photos showing who they might have been pointing to:Hillary Clinton/Monica Lewinsky, Barack Obama/Osama bin Laden, John McCain/Anne Coulter.with the superposition of the video is available here

Unbelievable! CNN narrows the Field of Candidates!

Minor adjustment and edit by GreyHawk. See comments...

Revised by Carol, No changes but update.I had a series of physical mishaps last week and so was not ontop of all the exciting (and otherwise) posts. The way that CNN deliberate shapes the political debate is not only infuriating but dangerous. By substituting lies and trivia and a good dose of horse rate mentality into their coverage, they no doubt succeed in channelling voters thinking, even I imagine critics such as myself. So I am front-paging this now to bring more intention to the situation.

I have done this by using the "revision" button. I have changed nothing in the text. I am not sure how this works but we shall all see.

Once again in the Corporate Media makes an "Executive Decision", about who America should see as their Viable Choices:

Hillary Clinton
Barack Obama
John McCain
Rudy Giuliani
Mike Huckabee
Mitt Romney

Only these Candidates were the Focus of the latest CNN Poll

Where is John Edwards in this Poll?

Is Hillary Clinton Proposing Bi-Partisan Extension of the War in Iraq?

In an interview on CNN's Situation Room, Wulf Blitzer asked Clinton, "Do you trust the Pakistani government to conduct a fair investigation?" Clinton answered, " I don't think the Pakstani government under President Musharaf has any credibility anymore.... The elites in Pakistan act as though they can destabilize Pakistan and retain their privilege their positions of privilege and authority." This was unacceptable. The position that she stated was that the present Pakistani government was illegitimate and that she was committed to supporting the Pakistanis to move to democracy.

Glenn Beck's Ratings: Headline Snooze

When CNN announced the hiring of radio talk jock Glenn Beck almost two years ago, they used words like "cordial," "conversational" and "not confrontational" to describe him. What they delivered was the polar opposite of that, as has been well documented by Media Matters. Despite CNN's laughable depiction of Beck as "Miss Congeniality," they knew exactly the sort of piffle they were peddling. Their programming strategy stated at the time was to...

"...build Beck into the type of TV personality that could siphon viewers from Bill O'Reilly, Joe Scarborough and other conservative hosts."

They failed.

Beck's ratings for November 2007 (25-54 demo) reveal a program on life support. At this point the humane thing to do would be to pull the plug and put Beck (and innocent TV viewers) out of their misery.

As shown here, Beck loses to all of his competitors in cable news. Both his live show and his repeat come in 4th out of four programs. That doesn't leave much for him to brag about.

But that's not the end of his problems.
