Is Contraception a form of Abortion
Submitted by: carol white on Sat, 07/19/2008 - 03:50
Christian Conservatives with support from the Bush Administration are extending their campaign against abortion and sex education to also try to turn back the clock on contraception. They now support legislation to prevent any institution that receives federal funding from refusing to hire doctors or health workers who refuse to provide abortion, contraceptives and information on birth control to patients.

Hillary Clinton's Speech Today
Submitted by: carol white on Sat, 06/07/2008 - 10:00
I tried to find a UTube of Hillary's speech today, but couldn't yet. I hope if someone does they will add it here. I hope the those who missed hearing it on TV or perhaps being there, do listen to it on video. It was a really great speech, which sets the stage the Democratic Party and Independants like myself to work together to defeat John McCain. He is now not only vowing to prolong the Iraq war indefinitely but supporting Presidential prerogative and the use of torture in interrogating prisoners, and he has pledged to appoint judges who will reverse Women's Rights to Choice.

Obama Clinches Nomination
Submitted by: carol white on Wed, 05/07/2008 - 01:14
CNN called the Indiana primary for Clinton at 1 a.m. today with 99% of the vote counted. At that time she had a 2% lead; however more than 1% of the vote in Lake County remained to be counted. He won by large margins in the four counties that Kerry won in 2004--which are considered to be Democratic party strongholds in a state that traditionally votes Republican.
In North Carolina he had a decisive victory with a 14% lead. Taking both elections together his vote count exceeded hers by more than 200,000.

Robert Reich has given us permission to post from his blog. I highly recommend his blog in general, and I thought this post in which he takes on media spin and the elephant no one is looking out--ie the worsening economic melt down that will have us all feeling a lot less happy unlesss the ramifications are addressed quickly.

The Clinton Myth - The Dem Primary is Over
Submitted by: Connecticut Man1 on Fri, 03/21/2008 - 21:28
It has been for a while now...
The Politico hits the reality nail on the head with this:
Story behind the story: The Clinton myth
One big fact has largely been lost in the recent coverage of the Democratic presidential race: Hillary Rodham Clinton has virtually no chance of winning.
Her own campaign acknowledges there is no way that she will finish ahead in pledged delegates. That means the only way she wins is if Democratic superdelegates are ready to risk a backlash of historic proportions from the party’s most reliable constituency.
Unless Clinton is able to at least win the primary popular vote — which also would take nothing less than an electoral miracle — and use that achievement to pressure superdelegates, she has only one scenario for victory. An African-American opponent and his backers would be told that, even though he won the contest with voters, the prize is going to someone else.
People who think that scenario is even remotely likely are living on another planet.
Clinton's likely reaction to being told this truth... Well? Look below...

Remember the saying from the original 1950's Superman TV series..."Truth, Justice and the American Way"? Boy, it might have been that way 50 years ago, but what about now?
A Death Almost Too Horrible to Believe
We're going to tell you the story of Patrick Cavanaugh, a 60-year old inmate at the Ely State Prison in Ely, Nev. Patrick was an insulin-dependent diabetic who was imprisoned at Ely for two years. During his time at Ely, Patrick was denied regular insulin injections, which, as many people know, is essential for diabetics to lead a healthy life. As a result of this deprivation of insulin, he developed gangrene. This didn't go unnoticed by prison staff: the smell of putrefying flesh was hard to miss. The medical staff could have opted to have the decayed, gangrenous limbs amputated, which would have saved Patrick's life. Instead, they did nothing, and Patrick essentially rotted to death.

Ann Coulter Spews Sewage

It would seem the conservative crowd is less than pleased with the candidates on offer in the upcoming presidential election. We need to pay more attention to what the other party is saying and less time eating our own.
As Americans first, and progessives second, it would behoove us to listen to what the noise machine is gearing up for. In Coulter's Feb. 14th column "There's a Democrat Behind Door No. 1, 2 and 3 Coulter has this to say:
Hillary is, shockingly enough, the most conservative candidate among the top three presidential candidates.
Say what?! But then again, John McCain is not a crowd-pleaser ... at least his candidacy does not please the conservative crowd (Loyal Bushies). Coulter's Feb. 6th column tells us how McCain has failed the conservative "litmus test":
- He excoriated Samuel Alito as too "conservative."
- He promoted amnesty for 20 million illegal immigrants.
- He abridged citizens' free speech (in favor of the media) with McCain-Feingold.
- He hysterically opposes waterboarding terrorists and wants to shut down Guantanamo.
- He denounced the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.
- He opposes ANWR and supports the global warming cult, even posturing with fellow mountebank Arnold Schwarzenegger in front of solar panels.
The rumblings in conservative circles [gutter dive in the comments] seem to indicate that no matter which of the three [McCain, Obama, Clinton] win the White House, the conservatives will lose.
