That "Liberal" Smear
...if by a liberal they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people - their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, their civil liberties..if that is what they mean by a "liberal" then I am proud to be a liberal.
-- John F. Kennedy
In the conservative world, the word "liberal" is often used as a smear and an epithet in an attempt to denounce anyone who they dislike or who stands opposed to their ideas and
idiot ideology. But now, after seven years of utter disaster at the hands of a conservative Administration -- one that inherited a conservative Republican majority in Congress, only to lose it six years later -- the nation and Conservatives have seen the disaster that their beliefs and policies lead to in terms of economic, political, military and social debacles, any one of which should give any sane citizen pause.
Conservatives, however, are not ones to reflect or reconsider failed positions or evidence that their flawed approach to government, to money, to military and political strategy and to social reform are simply bad policy.
Instead, they and their pundits surge forward, attempting to control the dialogue and re-write reality using any circular logic and propaganda stunt they can. One of the favorites is, of course, to project their failings upon their opponents and ignore facts and evidence to the contrary. At all costs, they avoid engaging in any meaningful dialogue based in verifiable fact and substance.
They also apply and change the meaning of words in an effort to convey negative emotion on positive change and to paint rosy pictures on the charred, smoking ruins that their failed philosophy and policies have created.
One of their most popular "epithets" is to accuse someone of being "liberal" and to repeatedly act in a childlike manner when engaging their opposition by inserting their favorite shortened form of the word -- "lib" -- into exchanges. That's their way of attempting to bring about a reaction and apply a label that in their mind conveys a derogatory spin upon their opponents. This is an apparent attempt to "demoralize" or emotionally upset anyone who takes a counter-Conservative stance.
What they fail to realize, however, is the laughter that usually greets such tactics.
In grade school, name-calling might have been popular and effective. In adult life, it's rarely seen as anything other than immature and foolish, with the rare occasion where it crosses into hate-speech and serves to stir anger, antipathy and violence against others.
Hate-speech is, essentially, the adult form of name-calling -- "adult" meaning that full-grown humans engage in it, but not in any method or manner can they be regarded as "mature" along mental and emotional lines. They may have achieved physical maturity, giving them the capability of breeding, but their minds remain dangerously simplified and childlike. They are unable to work through the twisted neuroses1 that constitute their mental workings, and part of the reason for this is that they are genetically predisposed toward a stubborn inability to "get the message" when their fail, and fail spectacularly.
Although they may be incapable of learning, or of recognizing progress, or of avoiding the same mistakes from the same tired old philosophies and rhetoric, we can look back approximately forty years and see that their easily-recognized message (still unchanged) already met with an accurate counter-message -- the words of John F. Kennedy, as quoted above.
No matter what they say or how they spin it, Conservatism is unpatriotic and has devastated our nation and the world. The only way to fix it is to reject Republicans and Conservatism in total, and move forward toward a more liberal, progressive world.
Be proud to be an American, a true US Patriot and to be liberal; have pity on the conservatives, but try not to listen to them cry, whimper or whine. They had their chance to prove themselves worthy of influence, and "succeeded" by implementing their policies almost entirely unopposed -- and nearly destroyed our nation.
Once again, they'll need the Democratic party to pick up the pieces.
Let's not let the immature, incapable Conservative Republicans play with the levers of government ever again. We can't afford to clean up any more messes. After all, they've nearly bankrupted the nation.
