Can't Get a Break....Postage & Terror List

Today I have just read that the mail in ballots from Ohio voters have various postage requirements.... Seems there should be a better way other than how much the ballot package weighs..some are three pages. Why cannot the Post Office just accept them as they get them rather than I assume shooting them back to the resident for postage due?

Postage problems arise with absentee ballots

As if voters needed one more issue in this election to confuse them, many are putting incorrect postage on their absentee ballot envelopes, risking a return of their ballots, postal officials say.

"Not only students but some of our staff like to put one first-class stamp on them, and that's not enough," said Tom Seifert, manager of the postal station at the University of Dayton. "Some are even mailing them without stamps," mistakenly thinking the government pays the postage on absentee ballots.

Now it must really be rough in Maryland...

Md. police put activists' names on terror lists

The Maryland State Police classified 53 nonviolent activists as terrorists and entered their names and personal information into state and federal databases that track terrorism suspects, the state police chief acknowledged yesterday.

Police Superintendent Terrence B. Sheridan revealed at a legislative hearing that the surveillance operation, which targeted opponents of the death penalty and the Iraq war, was far more extensive than was known when its existence was disclosed in July.

The department started sending letters of notification Saturday to the activists, inviting them to review their files before they are purged from the databases, Sheridan said.

"The names don't belong in there," he told the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee. "It's as simple as that."

Boy those people on the list must be so relieved!! BTW, didn't Mukasey just participate in a hearing on giving local police more powers so that if they suspected someone of being a terrorist they could go ahead with an investigation?
