Monday Morning Open Thread: Dream Trolls, xkcd Edition

Everybody dreams.

Sometimes, our dreams act as our mind's way to shuffle, sort, identify and understand the events of the day. Other times, they appear to be reflections of our wants and desires, or our frustrations and disappointments. Sometimes we dream about work. Sometimes about events or people we are barely acquainted with.

In a similar way, as the internet begins to permeate the socio-cultural and economic areas of our lives, social networking services like Twitter and Facebook spread, and the unforeseen impacts upon daily life appear to constantly bring new and different challenges along with them.

Some people just can't get enough -- for them, the internet becomes their primary method of interacting with the world around them, and losing their connection to their favorite blog or social networking site would be the stuff of nightmares. For others, the thought of always being able to maintain an online presence could be a dream come true...if only there weren't so many darn trolls:

Ted Kennedy's Dying Wish

Reprinted from JRichard's Gather blog. -- GH

Ted Kennedy's dying wish is no secret. He wanted to vote to bring in health care reform.

The right wing and the insurance industry denied him his dying wish. They played delaying tactics until he died. They spread lie after lie after lie about health care reform to try and stop it, and they kept delaying passage. "What is the rush?" Well, the reason for the rush is obvious. It was really always obvious. Ted Kennedy was dying, and everyone knew it. He was the biggest supporter of health care. It was his life work. It would cut into insurance company profits if he succeeded. If they could just delay things until after he was dead, things would be SO much easier for them.

But right now I need to introduce you to three of my friends. Don't worry. They are all safely dead, and have been for many years.

Dreams give us hope. They inspire us to reach heights of creativity and invention that we believed were not possible. Dreams help us through are most desperate times because they allow us to see a future that is beyond the place we presently occupy. Dreams are not just personal moments they can also be public.
