get out the vote

Find your polling place

Compliments of My Barack Obama (.com). Really a pretty nice little tool. Allows you to signup for a reminder call and then locates your polling place based on zip code. Here is the linky or click on the image (image credit same as link).

Here in Hawaii, we are being reminded to bring "photo ID".  I have lived in Hawaii for the last 4 years, but still retain my Oregon ID (drivers license), so not sure how that is gonna work out for me.

I Voted EARLY Today For Democrats!

I voted early today. It's the first time I've done this, and it was a breeze to do. It's the fifth time that I've voted since 2000. I still remember that excitement of my first vote for Al Gore to be President, even though it was ten years ago.

I voted in 2000 because I knew how terrible Governor Bush would be as President. I was sadly right. I didn't vote in the 2002 midterm election since I was depressed and angry about the illegal war against Iraq which 40% of the Democratic caucus in the House had voted for at the time.

Then I came to Dailykos around 2003 because of Howard Dean. I was one of the followers on the Dean For America blog, which later became Democracy For America. Here's the transcript of that famous "I'm here to represent the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party" speech below:

Broken Government -- 1974 through 2008

Here's an important reminder of ~why~ we need to evoke serious change and push the Republicans from their entrenched positions:

Barbara Charline Jordan
Statement on the Articles of Impeachment
delivered 25 July 1974, House Judiciary Committee

The Carolina ratification convention impeachment criteria: those are impeachable "who behave amiss or betray their public trust."4 Beginning shortly after the Watergate break-in and continuing to the present time, the President has engaged in a series of public statements and actions designed to thwart the lawful investigation by government prosecutors. Moreover, the President has made public announcements and assertions bearing on the Watergate case, which the evidence will show he knew to be false. These assertions, false assertions, impeachable, those who misbehave. Those who "behave amiss or betray the public trust."

James Madison again at the Constitutional Convention: "A President is impeachable if he attempts to subvert the Constitution." The Constitution charges the President with the task of taking care that the laws be faithfully executed, and yet the President has counseled his aides to commit perjury, willfully disregard the secrecy of grand jury proceedings, conceal surreptitious entry, attempt to compromise a federal judge, while publicly displaying his cooperation with the processes of criminal justice. "A President is impeachable if he attempts to subvert the Constitution."

If the impeachment provision in the Constitution of the United States will not reach the offenses charged here, then perhaps that 18th-century Constitution should be abandoned to a 20th-century paper shredder.

This is to remind people of what work needs to be done after November 4th, when The People have spoken and purged our government of those who kowtowed to the Republican hypocritical philosophies. I'm posting it in response to this diary by DrSteveB of DailyKos.

Until then, work hard to get out the vote and help cut through the surging layers of propaganda and malfeasance to ensure that the voters are both fully and accurately informed.
