Senate Adopts Don't Ask Don't Tell as Their Position on DADT

For now...

It is sad that they don't even have enough of a spine to talk about this. Not rationally nor irrationally, as is their tendency these days, they would rather just muzzle any debates on the world that has long since passed them by.

"With the failed cloture vote to end the filibuster of the Defense Authorization bill -- which in essence killed a vote on repealing "don't ask, don't tell," Joe Lieberman has announced that he will introduce a free standing bill to repeal the policy"

Barbara Morill also says to "stay tuned" because it will be coming before the end of the sessions.

Marriage Equality Clears Another Hurdle In California

Last week, Judge Walker delivered a ruling on Marriage Equality that was deemed a success by the people fighting for this basic human right. But he also delivered a ruling on a temporary stay of implementing the the results of his decision. Today, Judge Walker gave his stay a deadline of July 18th.

A federal judge put gay marriages on hold for at least another six days in California, disappointing dozens of gay couples who lined up outside City Hall hoping to tie the knot Thursday.

Judge Vaughn Walker gave opponents of same-sex weddings until Aug. 18 at 5 p.m. to get a ruling from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on whether gay marriage should resume. Gay marriages could happen at that point or be put off indefinitely depending on how the court rules.

More from the NY Times:

Prop 8 Roller Coaster in California

Judge Walker issued his rulings and struck down Prop 8 on the basis of violations of due process and equal protections rights:

Plaintiffs have demonstrated by overwhelming evidence that Proposition 8 violates their due process and equal protection rights and that they will continue to suffer these constitutional violations until state officials cease enforcement of Proposition 8. California is able to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, as it has already issued 18,000 marriage licenses to same-sex couples and has not suffered any demonstrated harm as a result...; moreover, California officials have chosen not to defend Proposition 8 in these proceedings.

Because Proposition 8 is unconstitutional under both the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses, the court orders entry of judgment permanently enjoining its enforcement; prohibiting the official defendants from applying or enforcing Proposition 8 and directing the official defendants that all persons under their control or supervision shall not apply or enforce Proposition 8.

But it was all just one giant step forward before an immediate stall:

Slow Walking Repeal of DADT

Arguably and the way this legislation is set up, repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policies that discriminate against the gay and lesbian communities and their ability to serve in the military will take time to do it this way. It could be done instantly with the wave of a presidential pen but the problem with that is that what the presidential pen giveth, the presidential pen may just as easily taketh away under the next discriminating and homophobic president. So, in a way, this slow walk may be better:

Nick Benton's Corner: Hitting Obama's Left Flank

Written by Nicholas Benton, owner/editor of Falls Church News Press. Posted with his permission.

It is surprising that so few progressives mortified by the aggressive assault tactics of the embittered right wing in America seem to appreciate the consequence of their own actions to deprecate the achievements of the Obama administration.

One Nation Two Spirits ... Our Native American Brothers & Sisiters

One segment of the LGBT community which is overlooked, most likely not even thought of, are our Native American brothers and sisters.

I became aware of Two Spirits about a year ago when adding categories to my link blog LGBT Rainbow Links.

Aside from being part of our community, the history of Two Spirits goes back before the first Europeans set foot in The New World.

FOCUS Breaks GLAAD/YouTube Story

Artlyn Entertainment's LGBT commentary blog FOCUS broke a story late Friday afternoon about GLAAD's YouTube account being suspended for "Copyright Infringement".

The suspension of the YouTube account affects videos GLAAD has on it's website.

GLAAD is the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation and is known for it's annual GLAAD Media Awards.

Michael Jackson's Death Boosts Readership Of LGBT Newscenter

It's a sad fact but Michael Jackson's death boosted The LGBT Newscenter's readership to over 500 on Thursday creating the highest one day readership since readership tracking of the site was started a week ago.

With the live CBS News feed featuring coverage from KCBS-TV and then late in the evening another Los Angeles TV station, it provided LGBT Internet users non-stop television coverage for several hours of the sad breaking news of Jackson's death.

A special West Coast edition of The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric was also streamed live.

Not A Stellar Day For LGBTs

In a double whammy on Monday, first the Supreme Court refused to hear a challenge to the policy of Don't Ask Don't Tell.

Many see President Barack Obama dragging his feet as he has yet to do anything about DADT despite campaign promises he would champion the repeal of DADT.

IS HRC Complicit In Keeping DADT Status Quo ?

Earlier this week, Jason Bellini a distinquished journalist formally of CNN, CBS and host of CBS News on LOGO, wrote and presented a video report on the website The Daily Beast in regards to whether HRC (Human Rights Campaign, an LGBT pro-rights group) may have had a hand in and struck a deal with the Obama Administration in delaying taking action on DADT in favor of other LGBT issues.

My Commentary About Taking Gay Marriage To The Supreme Court

It's been a couple of weeks since I wrote that I may not be posting here very much. But as for the most part I now work on my blogs Monday through Friday only, this will allow me to do a posting here at ePluribus on the weekends when I something I would like to cover or bring to your attention a commentary at my blog FOCUS.

Take a good hard look at the new face of NOM

The newest member of the anti-marriage equality group NOM, Orson Scott Card, is just a plain old lunatic that clearly proves, in his own words, that this is all about treating homosexuals as less than equal.

The hypocrites of homosexuality are, of course, already preparing to answer these statements by accusing me of homophobia, gay-bashing, bigotry, intolerance; but nothing that I have said here -- and nothing that has been said by any of the prophets or any of the Church leaders who have dealt with this issue -- can be construed as advocating, encouraging, or even allowing harsh personal treatment of individuals who are unable to resist the temptation to have sexual relations with persons of the same sex.

Not Card - He isn't homophobic... And he isn't advocating harsh treatment of them. Is he?

After blabbering on about how homosexuals must admit that they are sinning according to the rules of Card's personal lifestyle choice, his own personal religious views that he is trying to force on everyone else, he later goes on to discuss appropriate punishment for homosexuals:

This applies also to the polity, the citizens at large. Laws against homosexual behavior should remain on the books, not to be indiscriminately enforced against anyone who happens to be caught violating them, but to be used when necessary to send a clear message that those who flagrantly violate society's regulation of sexual behavior cannot be permitted to remain as acceptable, equal citizens within that society.

And he has the gall to title the piece "The Hypocrites of Homosexuality"...

You see, this has and always been about equality. The loonies at FIC, NOM and other anti-marriage equality groups are truly radical wingnuts that advocate Christianist hate and for treating others as second class citizens.

The latest face they have added to their stable of hate at NOM proves that it is all about equality.

But these days they know that they have to hide that fact because their real views are about as radical and un-American as it gets.

Chele, over at MLN, shows that Orson Scott Card has some serious problems with the US government. It is safe to say that his words do advocate for overthrowing the government and tossing The Constitution into the garbage:

Is It Appropriate To OUT Someone ?

This has been a sore subject with me ever since the magazine OUT was first published and the OUTING craze began back in the 90's.

Lately at just about every turn when either I'm checking news for myself or my blogs, someone, somewhere on the Internet or publications (which I read via website) are outing, attempting to out or are yelling from the highest pink mountain peak that so and so should come out and be a role model.

Really !?!

Two links I have for you today.
