we petition the obama administration to:

Recognize the men and women who are occupying wall street

Mr.Obama, this is a petition for you to publicly recognize, whether in a live speech, or in one of your weekly youtube addresses, the #occupywallstreet movement that is currently taking place in NYC.

These men and women are trying to send a message to their fellow Americans and to the world- the big banks and the super-rich, who is "buying out congress", are the primary drivers of the ongoing recession.

Unfortunately, they are largely being ignored by the media in the United States due to the "small size" of the protests. Note that "small size" has not deterred Fox, CNN and other US news channels/newspapers from covering, and even putting on the front page, Tea Party and other far right protests, some of which have had as little as 100 people (#occupywallst varies from 500-3000)

Created: Sep 23, 2011
Signatures needed by October 23, 2011 to reach goal of 5,000 - 4,209
Total signatures on this petition - 791

Open Thread - Politics on a Plane Edition

ePluribus Media had a chance to get to a Blogger's meet up with Rep. Jim Himes in Norwalk, Connecticut, on Tuesday night and we hit on a bunch of topics. We have a couple of videos up on the topic of Healthcare Reform over here already and you can peek at these YouTube uploads for more (Six from this event edited so far).

But for those of you that might wonder "if Rep. Anthony Weiner is really pushing as hard as he can for Single Payer?" You might enjoy this short and humorous video from the interview below the fold:

The Ironies of 911

BENEATH THE SPIN • ERIC L. WATTREE

While viewing America's solemn commemoration of the eighth anniversary of 911, I began to reflect upon its many ironies. The very first thing that came to mind was Dick Cheney's claim that Bush administration policies have kept us safe. My second thought was he must think we're crazy - and too many of us are.

When one looks upon the trauma, anger, and pain still etched upon the face of America eight years after the loss of 3000 of its citizens, one can only imagine what the Iraqi people are feeling after the documented murder, by name, of over 101,552 innocent men, women, and Iraqi children. Only after we begin to recognize the gravity of the atrocity that we committed in Iraq will America begin to understand that we will never be safe until we make the people responsible for that carnage accountable for their actions.

Nick Benton's Corner: Obama's Stand for the "Public Option"

Posted with permission of author, Nicholas Benton, owner/operatior of the Falls Church News Press

Just when many of his staunchest supporters were beginning to doubt his resolve, President Obama stood tall in front of the joint session of Congress last night to deliver what history will record as one of the most stirring, courageous and poignant speeches in the annals of the nation's history.

Bravo, Mr. President!

BENEATH THE SPIN • ERIC L. WATTREE

As I sat back last night and watched president Obama speak before the joint session of congress, I was delighted to be able to say to myself, now that's the man I voted for. He spoke with eloquence, he addressed every relevant issue, and he was inspirational - but most importantly, he spoke with the kind of strength that the American people expect of their leaders.

John King Pitches "Gotcha" Questions to Sebelius

I listened to John King (a Republican shill) interview Kathleen Sebelius on State of the Union. He was playing "gotcha" and Sebelius rolls over to let him scratch her belly. I have to paraphase this because there isn't  a transcript yet. John King asked:

Secretary Sebelius, according to President Obama in this NYT op-ed; he says if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor. Is it true in the coming market after reform that you can guarantee you will be able to keep your doctor? I mean if your employer changes plans or goes to the Public Option will you be able to guarantee you can keep your doctor?

The Annals of Injustice: Just Who IS the Enemy Anyway?

The conservative British press is now weighing on the infamous photos of prisoners being abused at Abu Ghraib. The Daily Telegraph headlines tell us, Abu Ghraib Abuse Photos 'Show Rape,'  The article which has been featured in the Huffington Post etc., is already part of the groundswell here demanding that President Obama release the pictures. But let's look at HOW the Telegraph covers the news and against WHOM they are mustering outrage, and let's look at how they have slanted their story so that it is targetted at President Obama rather than the actual war criminals -- Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld et al.

Duncan Garham, the Telegraph's "security correspondent" and Paul Cruikshank, start with a subhead making the point of their story unmistakeable:Photographs of alleged prisoner abuse which President Obama is attempting to censor include images of apparent rape and sexual abuse, it has emerged.

In fact this information was available in 2004 when the report by Major General Antonio Taguba.became public, including details of the sexual degredation of prisoners etc. The new story is based on an interview yesterday that the paper had with Gen. Taguba in which he revealed the existence of photographs along with this story. But that is hardly news.

Only by scrolling down to the seventh paragraph do we read that the General actually supports President Obama's decision:

Is Anybody Listening?

Many have already heard about the kids from Pomona California Village Academy High School, many have probably caught their little eight minute video that has launched them into the National Spotlight and Political Debate on what this Country is now going through. But this isn't new it's just affecting many more kids and families now, with more added each day. Kids can't learn and achieve any dreams they might have if their families are struggling and their living those struggles daily.

Last night on the PBS News Hour they showed a report on these kids and their videoed thoughts and feelings, that report is directly below.

How Loyal is the Loyal Opposition?

BENEATH THE SPIN ERIC L. WATTREE

From this point on I pledge to stop using the terms "conservative" and "Republican" interchangeably. I'm beginning to realize there's a big difference between the two. Conservatives are loyal and well-meaning Americans of good faith who just happen not to share my opinion of what's in the best interest of America. On the other hand, it has become clear that the Republican Party has crossed the line between the loyal opposition, and subversion.

Am I indulging in radical hyperbole? I don't think so. The American Heritage Dictionary defines subversive as "Intended or serving to subvert, especially intended to overthrow or undermine an established government" (emphasis added).

Michelle: "It Hurts!!", "It Hurts!!"

I went over to ABC News to see if they had posted a video report that I caught last night, never got to that as this is what I found, and will be airing this morning on GMA.

The GOP: A 'Rush' to Obscurity

BENEATH THE SPIN

Those of us who pointed out that Michael Steele was elevated to Chairman of the Republican National Committee as both a token, and as attack-dog-in-chief against President Obama should feel completely vindicated. No further evidence need be presented than what recently took place when Mr. Steele had the audacity to say that he was the head of the Republican Party, not Rush Limbaugh. In response Limbaugh all but literally told him to stay in his place.

Don't Forget the Iraqi Refugees

REFUGEES INTERNATIONAL LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN URGING OBAMA TO HELP IRAQI REFUGEE

Washington D.C. - As President Obama works to stabilize Iraq, he must be sure to comprehensively address the Iraqi refugee crisis. Five million Iraqis have been uprooted by conflict, forced to leave everything behind. They have sought refuge within Iraq, Syria, Jordan and other neighboring countries. They are running out of resources with little opportunity for employment; access to food, heath care, education and other essential services is extremely limited. The conditions for Iraqis to return home safely do not exist, and millions of Iraqi refugees are unlikely and unwilling to return to Iraq in the foreseeable future. The U.S. administration must lead international efforts to meet the long-term needs of displaced Iraqis. Failure to assist Iraqis will have dramatic impacts on security inside Iraq.

Beneath the Spin:The Republican Leadership–They Just Don't Get it

It is completely unconscionable how far the Republican leadership has strayed from anything resembling responsible governance. While they thrive on their claim of patriotism, their petulant obstructionism during one of the most serious financial crises in American history betrays a total disregard for this nation, and an absolute disdain for the American people. Their childish behavior is nothing short of political malfeasance.
