Republican Joe Lieberman

Open Thread - Spicy Eastern Schadenfreude

In the Nutmeg State many are just a little more than overjoyed at the thought of this news from the NY Times:

Referring to Mr. Lieberman’s plan to forgo re-election, Bill Curry, a prominent Democrat who served with Mr. Lieberman in the State Senate, said, "It’s the first thing he’s done in 10 years to make Connecticut Democrats completely happy."

It ain't just the Dems that are doing a little happy dance over this news... I would have posted on the rumors flying around these parts in the last couple of days earlier if I could have gotten access to the internet. As it was? I was probably too busy enjoying the moment to write, anyways. His official announcement should be today and, needless to say, there will be video coming from many of his "favorite" Connecticut Bloggers planning to be there to capture this for posterity's sake. Open Thread it!

A GOP Palin/Lieberman ticket in 2012?

(x-posted at My Left Nutmeg)
Stranger things have happened, dontcha know?

She does single out some who during the campaign offered support and encouragement, specifically Sen. Joe Lieberman, a close friend of McCain. Prior to a key debate in which the prep advice was becoming overwhelming, Lieberman urged her to “Be yourself,” she writes. Sen. Lieberman then added: “Don’t let these people try to change you. Don’t let them tell you what to say and how to think.”

Then again, that little bit of advice may have actually helped Joe Biden win the debate, wink-wink, and Barack Obama win the campaign. But there is also the reality that Connecticut voters view Joe Lieberman as a Republican by a 2 to 1 margin.

The only thing that could do more to put the final nail in the coffin of the GOP's walking party of the dead? Palin/Bachmann in 2012!

Single Payer Activists Arrested at Lieberman's DC office

They came, they sat, they chanted:

8 Protesters backing a universal health care system briefly occupied Sen. Joe Lieberman's office this morning.

Protesters were arrested, one by one, and dragged out of his office amid chants of "Everyone in and noone out, universal healthcare now!" and "Represent Connecticut, not AETNA!"

Activists hopefully moving the Overton Window - in our case leftward - because too many Democratic party politicians were too stupid to do that on their own at the start of the healthcare debate.

Comparing Joe neocon Lieberman To A Dog?

Jeff Huber, at ePM, may want to be careful because the SPCA could come after him for animal abuse with a comparison like this:

It must be a kick in the head to base your claim to the presidency on your savvy in foreign affairs only to have it get out that Joe Lieberman knows more about them than you do. I bet it’s a lot like how I feel when my dog corrects my grammar in front of people.

Take Gavel From Childish Joe Neocon Lieberman

Marc Ambinder and Mike Allen are both reporting this afternoon that Joe Lieberman will appear in New Hampshire to endorse John McCain's presidential campaign.
