Senate Adopts Don't Ask Don't Tell as Their Position on DADT

For now...

It is sad that they don't even have enough of a spine to talk about this. Not rationally nor irrationally, as is their tendency these days, they would rather just muzzle any debates on the world that has long since passed them by.

"With the failed cloture vote to end the filibuster of the Defense Authorization bill -- which in essence killed a vote on repealing "don't ask, don't tell," Joe Lieberman has announced that he will introduce a free standing bill to repeal the policy"

Barbara Morill also says to "stay tuned" because it will be coming before the end of the sessions.

A bit on the new consumer protection agency +++ FinReg with Thom Hartmann and Matt Taibi

Over at My Left Nutmeg the Working Families Party is gunning to get Senator Chris Dodd to do the right thing and push for a vote on Elizabeth Warren for the new consumer protection agency (CPA):

Open Thread - Democracy Inaction

David Sirota points to a bit of C-SPAN video showing - during a motion to waive the Budget act concerning the Sanders Amendment vote which would establish a national consumer credit rate, capping credit card rates at 15% -  how little has changed in Congress, as too many politicians will do anything to look like they are fighting for you even when they clearly are not:

FinReg Waits for a Signature After 60 to 39 Vote

How the Senate vote went down:

The vote was 60 to 38, with just three centrist Republicans from the Northeast joining with the Democrats in voting to advance the legislation. One Democrat, Senator Russ Feingold of Wisconsin, voted against the bill, saying it was still not tough enough. Senator Michael D. Crapo, Republican of Idaho, did not vote, and one seat — which was held by Senator Robert C. Byrd, who died last month — is vacant.

With the Senate poised to send the bill to President Obama for his signature, the White House was already planning a ceremony — sometime next week — to mark completion of another landmark piece of legislation, following the enactment of the historic health care bill in March and last year’s major economic stimulus program.

What it means financial wise and politically below.

Notes on CT Governor and Senate Races

Flying and Hookers and Chairs, oh my!

As a follow up to a previous diary on former Florida GOP party chair, Jim Greer, being chased for corruption.

Between stories of skimming party money, expensive charter flights and the orgasm envy of the former Florida GOP Chair comes allegations that "women were involved and paid" on a junket to the Bahamas:

In one case, Greer organized a men-only trip to the Bahamas along with a group of major donors. O'Rourke was forbidden from attending, though Greer brought two male party staffers.

Beth Kigel, a lobbyist, fundraiser and member of the state party executive committee from Palm Beach County, told investigators she also had heard about that men-only trip but that "women were involved and paid."

Via TPM, Gov. Crist had something to say on the subject:

BRILLIANT! Pelosi forces vote on Tax Cuts for Job Outsourcers, Idiots fall for it hook line & sinker

Speaker Pelosi pulled a brilliant move at the end of the last weeks legislative session.

House Democrats are home for a long Memorial Day break with a gift-wrapped wedge issue delivered just in time for district campaigning. One of their final actions before adjourning late Friday was passing a measure that would strip tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas by a 215-204 vote.

The Grand Outsourcing Party. Expect Dems to run on this come election time.

More brilliance below the fold.

SCANDAL! Rand Paul MUST return Neo-Nazi funds NOW and DENOUNCE Stormfront.org

[ed note - CM1]  Welcome MinistryOfTruth who has graciously accepted an invitation to post some material here. And enjoy! I know I do.

This must be seen across America. Stormfront.org, which was founded to support David Duke for senate by another KKK Grand Dragon, Don Black, has been promoting and contributing to Rand Paul's moneybombs. Palling around with WhiteSupremacists much?

Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com
That's a tweet from Don Black, head of the white supremacist group Stormfront. Wow.

~snip~

So, Trey Grayson should reject donations from Republicans who voted for the bailout........but it's okay for Rand Paul to accept donations from Stormfront? genuineGOPmom.blogspot.com

I will state this loudly and clearly. Over and over at the top of my Jewish lungs.

Rand Paul MUST return Neo-Nazi funds NOW and DENOUNCE Stormfront.org

But he can't. Democrats MUST turn 2010 into a referendum on Rand Paul. So, let's see how deep the rabbit hole goes.

Wake me up when the hostile takeover of stupid is over...

Yesterday Sen. Kit Bond had some severe criticism of Eric Holder, with Bond claiming that Holder was in the process of a hostile takeover of the intelligence community:

Sen. Kit Bond (R-MO) made a rather surprising claim on MSNBC today, suggesting that the Obama Administration's intelligence on the Pakistani Taliban having been behind the failed Times Square bombing was like the Bush Administration's bogus intel on weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

Bond also claimed that Attorney General Eric Holder has refused to give Bond's intelligence committee the information it requests, and that Holder "has executed a hostile takeover of the intelligence community."

Apparently Holder's techniques are so hostile that Bond could not wake up from this nightmare:

Shelby Stomps Feet, Takes Ball and Goes Home

How is this for bipartisan?

Shelby Blocks All Obama Nominations In The Senate Over AL Earmarks

Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) has put an extraordinary "blanket hold"
on at least 70 nominations President Obama has sent to the Senate,
according to multiple reports this evening. The hold means no
nominations can move forward unless Senate Democrats can secure a
60-member cloture vote to break it, or until Shelby lifts the hold.

"While holds are frequent," CongressDaily's Dan Friedman and Megan Scully report
(sub. req.), "Senate aides said a blanket hold represents a far more
aggressive use of the power than is normal." The magazine reported
aides to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid were the source of the news
about Shelby's blanket hold.

Somebody call the wahhhhmbulence for this poor kid. Sadly, this is pretty typical of the ridiculous number of bipartisan efforts as the GOP has taken the act of fillibusters to heights unseen in American politics:

Judge Orders Breitbart Brat Home to Mommy and Daddy

Co-conspirators Stan Dai and 25 year old WingNerds Gone Wild video producer James O'Keefe seen leaving the courthouse in a photo that O'Keefe did not have a chance to tamper with before I could:

After getting caught messing with the phone lines in Senator Landrieu's Louisiana office, even videoing his and his co-conspirators with their pants caught around their felonious ankles himself, Magistrate Judge Louis Moore released James O'Keefe on bail to his parents' custody in New Jersey until his next hearing on February 13.

No word on whether or not the right WingNerd internet sensationalist and Rovian troll clone will dwell in their basement...
