Former GOP Rep. Tom DeLay Sentenced Today

And so it finally happens:

Daily Kos: Breaking: Tom DeLay Gets 3 Years In Prison
www.dailykos.com

Justice at last! Thank goodness for straight arrow judges like Judge Priest who are not impressed or intimidated by a defendant's political connections.

Sentenced to 3 years for "conspiracy to commit political money laundering" and second sentence of 5 years for "money laundering" - the second of which was reduced to 10 years probation by the judge - DeLay feels no remorse for his crimes:

DeLay was taken into custody by Travis County deputies, but will be released on $10,000 bail pending appeal.

DeLay pleaded for himself before visiting District Judge Pat Priest.

"I don't feel remorseful for something I don't think I did," DeLay told the judge.

Prosecutors urged Priest to sentence DeLay to prison immediately. But defense lawyer Dick DeGuerin said the case destroyed DeLay's political career and life and that was punishment enough.

Any guesses how long before this political elitist gets a pardon from the Republican Governor? Wait for it, Wait for it...

Fact: Former GOP House Leader Is Now The Criminal Tom DeLay

So sayeth a jury of his peers:

Tom DeLay, Ex-House Majority Leader, Found Guilty in Money-Laundering Trial

A Texas jury Wednesday found Tom DeLay, the former House majority leader and Texas political powerhouse, guilty in a money-laundering trial involving contributions to political campaigns. The verdict was the latest chapter in a long legal battle that forced Mr. DeLay to step down. The trial also opened a window on the world of campaign financing in Washington, as jurors heard testimony about large contributions flowing to Mr. DeLay from corporations seeking to influence him and junkets to posh resorts where the congressman would rub shoulders with lobbyists in return for donations.

DeLay could face life in prison for the money laundering charges.

This part is of particular interest, IMHO, because it implies that the Republican National Committee is a central part of the laundering scheme:

Because you do Need To Know what is at stake on Tuesday: Redistricting and Gerrymandering

The most recent Census is behind us which puts the importance of the upcoming election's importance front and center. And, more importantly, what the results of the this election can do to your future vote. Right now it is all about one thing:

Redistricting across the nation.

It happens after every Census and it can decide whether to keep the district lines fairly and reasonably drawn... OR it can amplify or drown your voice in future elections. It is that big a deal. I wrote on this a short while back - foreshadowing the importance that it would have now, Now, NOW!

Dive in for more on both Redistricting and the inevitable Gerrymandering that results below...

UPDATE 3: Small Plane Crashes Into Government Building in TX

Hat-tip to LordRag of DelphiForums

A small plane, overloaded with fuel, has crashed into a building that housed IRS, CIA and FBI offices, according to the MSNBC.

The "overloaded with fuel" part, when combined with the government building aspect, makes this a candidate for an act of terrorism, but if the act was intentional -- and initial indication by witnesses suggest that the pilot had full control -- the question this: is it an act of foreign, or domestic, terror?

At least one person has already started asking whether this might be a potential example of domestic teabagging terrorism, a.k.a. teabaggers gone over the edge and firmly establishing themselves as a dangerous and unstable new form of domestic terrorist.

More as the situation is updated throughout the day.

[UPDATE - CM1] He left a manifesto? Supposedly and below the fold. [update 2] And the crazy comments pile up:

"Here's What's Insane: LOTS Of People Are Defending Joseph Andrew Stack"

[update 3] And now Joseph Stack has a legion of insane "Don't Tread on Me!" facebook fans. Link and image capture in the comments.

"Self-regulation" puts investors and children at risk: Pipeline construction transforms neighborhood into war zone

In Texas, local ordinance do not apply to pipelines. Current laws in Texas do not stipulate how far a pipeline must be from a house or structure. The industry lobbies consistently for "self-regulation" stating that it is better for the people because "too much regulation" will be too "costly." The Driver Pipeline (subcontractor) construction site in the ONCOR /LUMINANT 20' electrical easement through East Arlington is a blantant example of the INDUSTRY failing to self-regulate.

A serious protest, Oregon sues Oppenheimer

Sick of hearing about Tea Party Protests -- about Taxes going down?

Here's some "Protest News" that is worth knowing about ...

Oregon sues fund company for college savings losses
AP Executive Morning Briefing - April 14, 2009

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — State officials are seeking $36.2 million in damages from OppenheimerFunds Inc., which managed a fund responsible for steep losses in the Oregon College Savings Plan. Officials said in a statement Monday that risky, "hedge-fund like" investments cost the Oppenheimer Core Bond Fund 36 percent of its value last year — and 10 percent more so far this year.

How Loyal is the Loyal Opposition?

BENEATH THE SPIN ERIC L. WATTREE

From this point on I pledge to stop using the terms "conservative" and "Republican" interchangeably. I'm beginning to realize there's a big difference between the two. Conservatives are loyal and well-meaning Americans of good faith who just happen not to share my opinion of what's in the best interest of America. On the other hand, it has become clear that the Republican Party has crossed the line between the loyal opposition, and subversion.

Am I indulging in radical hyperbole? I don't think so. The American Heritage Dictionary defines subversive as "Intended or serving to subvert, especially intended to overthrow or undermine an established government" (emphasis added).

UpDated: Veterans March for VA Hospital in S. Texas

Kathy Upton, pictured above in the red shirt, is the manager of the Best Western in George West. On Tuesday afternoon Upton donated two rooms to Rio Grande Valley veterans who are marching to San Antonio. This allowed the veterans to get showers after their 30-mile trek from Alice. A couple of days ago I posted about a group of Veterans Marching to San Antonio Texas to raise awareness of the need for Veterans Hospital in South Texas that's been needed for a long time, the Texas Pols have promised but it never comes about, typical. {that link is for the post at my site}

This is to update that previous, with a few news reports, video and pictures, as these Vets are On The March!!

Sanford Won't Fix Tysheoma's School. Governor Rejects Stimulus. Joins Texan Perry in "Rejection Front"

South Carolina's Governor Mark Sanford refuses to take Federal stimulus money because he says it is a "predatory loan" against future generations. That means Tysheoma's High School won't get rebuilt. Tysheoma is the Junior High Student invited to the state of the union by the Obamas. It means South Carolina's unemployed, now nearing 11% and one of the highest official levels in the country won't get the relief available from the package, unlessthe state legislature acts to overide his arbitrary wilfullness.

Governor Perry in Texas feels the same way about the unemployed Sanford does. He's decided to refuse a part of the package that would bring relief to the unemployed because the measure is anti-business. Texas politics is in an uproar over this just like South Carolina's.

Sanford is not just a state level political figure. He's a former Goldman Sachs banker who is also the head of the Republican
Governor's Association. He's made himself a national issue for many reasons. Yesterday he was quipping to the press that Obama's programs are leading the US down the same path Zimbabwe is on. Rep Jim Clyburn also from South Carolina has taken up the cudgels against Sanford saying he's gone "beyond the pale." Perry thinks he's a got presidential potential  for 2012. Stranger things have happened to fly by I guess.

The Democratic National Committee has made a 30 second TV ad attacking what Sanford is doing. It will begin to run next week. Meanwhile the ad has become available on YouTube.

Coverage of the situations in both "rejection front" states detailed opposition to the fundamentlist governors in the ranks of the Republican parties. Such fights will shape national political outcomes in a more interesting way than the defective fanatics of the Washington rejection frontistas like Bohner, Blunt and McConnell.

Thank goodness there's a name for this disorder.

Somehow I feel better, even though I have it!!

Recently, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D. -
Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.

This is how it manifests:

URGENT! Would you stop a murder if you could? YOU CAN!

YOU CAN! Please do!

Last month in Texas a man named Andre Thomas, who has a long history of mental illness, tore his eye out and ate it. He had previously ripped his other eye out while he was waiting to stand trial in 2004. A judge ruled him fit to stand trial after the first incident.  Now he is completely blind.

Texas Humor - Do it Yourself!

Happy New Year you all! A while back a friend sent me this little ditty... I must admit I like a surprise ending!
Enjoy!

Husband: Oh, come on.

Wife: Leave me alone!

Husband: It won't take long.

Wife: I won't be able to sleep afterwards.

Husband: I can't sleep without it.

Wife: Why do you think of things like this in the middle of the night?

Husband: Because I'm Hot.

Wife: You get hot at the darnedest times.

Husband: If you love me I wouldn't have to beg you.

Wife: If you love me you'd be more considerate.
