There was great diary on the rec list at Daily Kos yesterday by The Termite about a mantis melee (but you shouldn't even bother reading it). It's about 150 insects who slaughter/eat each other (leaving only 6 survivors) on the first night they are left alone in a new habitat. That's what I thought of when I read this today:
In what would amount to a slap in the face to a sitting Republican president and the party's Senate and House leaders, national GOP officials, including the vice chairman of the Republican National Committee, are sponsoring a resolution opposing the resort to "socialist" means to save capitalism.
" We can't be a party of small government, free markets and low taxes while supporting bailouts and nationalizing industries, which lead to big government, socialism and high taxes at the expense of individual liberty and freedoms," said Solomon Yue, a cosponsor of a resolution that would put the RNC -- the party's national governing body -- on the record as opposing the U.S. government bailouts of the financial and auto industries.
You go Yue. Liberties and freedoms. Right.
We hear you, GOP leaders. The problem is that you haven't been Republican enough. If you put yourselves out there as wishy-washy left-pandering moderates like George W. Bush and his administration then you will never get the hearts and minds back.
Somebody has to push back against all this union nonsense, higher wages and better benefits and all that... and health care for everyone. That's the best one of all! Everyone who can't afford health insurance knows they don't deserve it, and everyone who has it loves the freedom they have to pay as much as they want to for as little actual care as they choose.
And the Mexicans! McCain was a coward on that one just like Bush. It's why he lost. You don't have to pander to the Hispanic voters in Texas, Florida, California, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada and elsewhere. They don't want amnesty for the illegal invaders either. And besides, I don't think there are really all that many of them. Demographics Schmemographics. As Americans, you have the freedom and liberty to be as racist as you want to be AND DON'T YOU LET US FORGET IT!
More from the Washington Times:
"Jim Bopp is the author of the no-bailout resolution because he wants to articulate our core principles now, not every four years when we have a presidential election," said Mr. Yue, an Oregon member of the Committee. "This is based on the thinking that articulating political philosophy is equally important as applying it consistently."
Articulate away Sirs. We will all be listening. Tell us again how Social Security should have been liberated to the hands of Wall Street giving us the freedom to... how does that one go again?
