"...if not now, when? If not you, who?"

From Democracy Now:

More below the fold.

"Daddy, if not now, when? If not you, who?"

There's a very interesting story in the Guardian UK about the shooting that contains some interesting and insightful tidbits about the doctor. For example, this:

__________

"My daughters came into my study. I was reading. And they said: 'Daddy, if not now, when? If not you, who? Who is going to stand up for women with unexpected and badly damaged babies?' I had the support of my family, and we were able to proceed ahead."
__________

We've been seeing more and more violent, inciteful rhetoric over the past eight years, escalating almost exponentially when Barack Obama won the Presidency and sent the crazies into overdrive: he wasn't white. He had a middle name that scared them. And he believed in the rule of law -- we weren't going to torture anymore. We were going to try to start living up to the promises of our Constitution and Bill of Rights. We were going to be a nation of integrity and honor, run by adults, again.

The radical fundamentalists, quite naturally, flipped out.

How do you recognize such a person? Find anyone who supports torture, and cheers on Dick Cheney; they're probably also opposed to holding our "leaders" accountable. They've likely stocked up on guns and ammunition, talk about "taking back" the nation they've nearly destroyed, think women should be subservient -- or even property of -- men and they are both sexually repressed and obsessed with sex. In short, they are immature, racist, homophobic misogynists with anal fixations who are fundamentally incapable of evolved, enlightened, adult thought processes. They are the unevolved cretins of our society, and they are dangerous.

Dangerous to themselves and others. Dangerous to the ideals of true Democracy and freedom. Dangerous to the rule of law, the furthering of science, the environment, education and the future evolution of life.

What kind of people are these radical anti-abortionists? What kind of lives do they think they're saving? Here's an example from the Guardian article:

_________

At 22 weeks of gestation it was discovered through ultrasound and other tests that the foetus of her first child had hydrocephalus – an excess of fluid on the brain. Its head was enlarged, and Coe and her husband were told that it would be born without brain function and would have no conscious life.

"We made a difficult decision that that wasn't the life we wanted for our child," she said.
__________

A child without brain function. Very much like -- but on the opposite spectrum from -- Terry Schiavo, and we all learned something about these people during that fiasco: the rule of law doesn't apply, unless it applies in a way they can skirt or twist toward their ends. Reality and facts don't apply -- compassion? HA! -- when these imbeciles get their artificially girded loins in a snit.

CNN tells us that, according to the FBI, preliminary data indicates that violent crime dropped in 2008, and has been on the decline. Meanwhile, right-wingers are still vehemently objecting to the recent DHS report about the growing terrorist threat of Right-Wing extremist groups, and steadfastly ignoring how the Tiller murder kinda confirms that.1

What's worse, there are now reports detailing how crazy military chaplains are promoting anti-American militia activity, and people like Bill O'Reilly of Fox News who spent a great deal of time fanning the flames and rhetorically inciting violent sentiment against Dr. Tiller.

The right-wing continues to huff and puff and blow their self-righteous, gaseous fumes across the land, calling for and inciting violence while denying any responsibility for their inappropriate discourse.

Those who are slightly more unhinged than others will be moved to act by such words, and those who are knowing continuing without regard for the consequences -- and who think they can feign innocence while dodging responsibility -- are hoping for more violence. Blood calls blood. Violence begets violence. And words are powerful.

History is a powerful teacher. Remember what history tells us of the death of Sir Thomas Beckett?

__________

"What sluggards, what cowards have I brought up in my court, who care nothing for their allegiance to their lord. Who will rid me of this meddlesome priest?"

-- The Murder of Thomas Becket, 1170,
            Eyewitness to History.com
__________

History is calling. The right, the GOP, the torture deniers and apologists, the radical fundamentalists and generally ill-tempered unevolved cretins would rather we not answer.

Who will answer the call, and call for investigations, prosecutions, responsibility and accountability?

"Daddy, if not now, when? If not you, who?"

infallible and able to absolve himself of sins (infallibility, however, means they were not sins in the first place!)..

He played no role in this event despite ever clearly enunciating how to reiterate the message, and correctly, on the air 29 different times.

In commercial television, this is called advertising. On FOX, it's O'Reilly's 'reporting'.

Admittedly, sticking them altogether in one clip to make it abundantly clear, makes it abundantly clear, but it is important to understand these segments have been collected since 2005.

Nevertheless, O'Reilly intended to be very certain about his message.

Is this still in our vocabulary after eight long years of the message being driven home: responsibility and accountability?

Whew!

Come on, Hawk.  Don't bite your tongue - tell us what you really think.

But seriously, contrary to popular belief, we do have Neanderthals still walking among us - and the irony is, they think there's something wrong with the rest of us.

Religious bigotry: It's not that I hate everybody who doesn't look, think, and act like me - it's just that God does.

But only a bit. ;)

And your observation rings true with the irony of it all: "we do have Neanderthals still walking among us - and the irony is, they think there's something wrong with the rest of us"

Scary people.

spoken up?  People like Billy Graham, Pat Robertson, etc....or would they be considered old school. I wonder to myself how Randall Terry would feel if he had to wear a bulletproof vest on a daily basis for legally performing his profession.

I sincerely doubt that if he felt he had to go to such extremes, we wouldn't be hearing cries of terrorism and opporession if it wasn't immediately dealt with.

I've been waiting to learn of an investigation.  http://www.denverpost.com/nationworld/ci_12532350

excerpt:

WASHINGTON — The Justice Department on Friday opened an investigation into the killing of Kansas abortion provider George Tiller to see whether the shooting suspect had accomplices.

The department will investigate possible federal crimes in connection with Tiller's slaying at his church Sunday in Wichita. State prosecutors have already ruled out seeking the death penalty against the shooting suspect, but federal prosecutors did not rule out doing so as they announced their own investigation.

growing cacaphony of irresponsible incitement that is purposely aimed at causing trouble -- it furthers their agenda, and the "family values" people don't care who gets hurt if it progresses their power and purposes.
