July 4th -- Fantasies and Realities

There was a float today that completely killed my enjoyment of the local parade -- a teabagger protest about "unfair taxation" that simply annoyed me.

We are currently entering a period where the majority of Americans are receiving a tax BREAK, after 8 years of catering to the top tier of citizens and corporations, and yet there are many of these sorts of reality-challenged 'protests' being ginned up across the nation.

What an annoying, pithy and obnoxious slap in the face to all those who are trying to celebrate the unique experience and experiment that is the United States of America.

So, what's your day turning out to be like?

I had a most unusual day. Chris and I went to a baseball game in DC with Nick Benton. It was my second (when I was somewhere around seven years old I went to Ebbets Field with my grandfather who lived in California but was visiting). However I followed along happily and enjoyed to spectactular moments when the Nationals and the Atlanta team scored home runs with bases filled, 'cause like most Americans I played soft ball as a kid (poorly I must admit.)

Later we saw  spectacular fire work from the roof-top terrace of the Kennedy Center. They were really a work of art. Incredible!

An add on was reading inspiring quotations from JFK speeches about how art shapes a culture and the spirit of a nation in ways of which we are unaware.
