Domestic Terrorists Strike Inside US Against Children and Mothers Engaged in Prayer

Hat-tip Chris Rodda for this story; his her piece is currently sitting at the top of the Recommended list over there. Please help get the traditional media to cover this story, and make sure they call it what it is: domestic terrorism.

Terrorists have struck on US soil again. All the bluff and bluster of "we're fighting them there so we won't have to fight them here" -- along with all the idiotic, illegal and unconstitutional surveillance, searches and seizures -- have finally been put to the test and found ridiculously wanting.

The attack was by domestic terrorists, the most insidious kind.

They struck, as if on some unholy jihad, against children.1

It's suspected that the motivation and catalyst for the attacks may be tied to some idiots' brilliant idea of distributing a free DVD -- a DVD called "Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West." The DVD was distributed over the course of the week by a pro-McCain group in 28 key battleground "swing" states.

On Friday, September 26, the end of a week in which thousands of copies of Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West -- the fear-mongering, anti-Muslim documentary being distributed by the millions in swing states via DVDs inserted in major newspapers and through the U.S. mail -- were distributed by mail in Ohio, a "chemical irritant" was sprayed through a window of the Islamic Society of Greater Dayton, where 300 people were gathered for a Ramadan prayer service. The room that the chemical was sprayed into was the room where babies and children were being kept while their mothers were engaged in prayers.

This isn't the act of a Patriot, or a Christian, or even a concerned citizen: it is the act of a coward. A sniveling, amoral, unintelligent and baseless coward who hides behind propaganda, banners and bibles and lurks in the shadows, waiting to carry out violence against the innocent in order to evoke terror.

In short, this was the act of a terrorist. A domestic terrorist. One very much like the type who once haunted our nation in droves, collectively acting in groups of similar cowardly, brutish morons ... and they are apparently still here, and still active.

In Memory of Four Little Girls:

The September 15, 1963 racially motivated bombing of Birmingham's Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, which resulted in the death of four innocent black girls, was the nadir of the Civil Rights movement in Birmingham and perhaps one of the darkest days in Birmingham's history.

Between 1947 and 1965, over fifty bombings occurred in Birmingham, resulting in the city becoming known as "Bombingham"; Perhaps the most famous of these blasts was the one that took the lives of four innocent black youth as they prepared their Sunday School lessons on a Sunday Morning at the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church.

On a quiet Sunday morning, September 15, 1963, four little black girls prepared their Sunday School lessons in the basement of the church. In the same basement sat a bomb placed by segregationists, designed to kill and maim in protest of the forced integration of Birmingham's public schools. Denise McNair, Carole Robertson, Cynthia Wesley, and Addie Mae Collins were killed in the explosion.

The bombing outraged the nation and gave four little faces to the movement. The blast, combined with other shameful Alabama events, such as the dogs and fire hoses of 1963, and the beatings of demonstrators as they began the Selma to Montgomery march in 1964, contributed to the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights of 1965, and
the death of segregation in the South.

"Suffer the little children" isn't just a quote from the bible (Mark 10:14) anymore.2

The stirring up of violence and the possible (but as-yet unproven) tie-in to the distribution of the DVD has other, darker considerations: it implies the use and intent to stir up controversy, increase fear and racism and generate politically and religiously motivated acts, quite possibly in order to influence a political campaign. The DailyKos diary cited at the top includes the following:

The presidential campaign edition of the Obsession DVD, currently being distributed by the Clarion Fund, carries the endorsement of the chair of the counter-terrorism department of the U.S. Naval War College, using the name and authority of an official U.S. military institution not only to validate an attack the religion of Islam, but to influence a political campaign. For these reasons, this endorsement has been included in MRFF's second lawsuit against the Department of Defense, which was filed on September 25 in the Federal District Court in Kansas.

Go read it.

Spread the news of this cowardly, inhuman and traitorous act; push to get it out in front of people, so that we can awaken the anger and outrage that we need to face down, stare down and put an end to such filthy acts of deadly ignorance.

Thank you.

Personally, I've had it the Republican tactics of fear, smear and violence. They've destroyed the nation and made us less safe, less secure, less economically stable (and that is a major freakin' understatement, my friends). With a record like that -- and now actively supported by apparent domestic terrorists -- I well and truly hope that every rational human being who is a citizen and capable of voting this November votes with their minds fully engaged, and puts the GOP completely out of business.

I've had it with their cheap, thuggish tactics and clumsy, negligent methodology.

Haven't you?

  1. Digg the DailyKos piece, and Buzz this one. Check the two source links and do whatever you can to get those up and out, too. This MUST become a major outrage across the nation if we are to quell the violent acts of the lunatic fringe before any others are hurt, or worse.

  2. Other pieces dealing with children, war and the wayward attitudes of those who call themselves "Christians" yet still support the Republican thirst for more war and bloodshed:

There was also another, one which didn't fit explicitly into this group and is part of what I refer to as The Woo Tales, called "Hannibal" Jack Malamute; the reference is at the very end, but the whole piece is necessary to understand the segue.

And now, this one joins that list.

A racist or some racists squirted a can of pepper spray through the window of a moseque and unfortunately selected one in the room in which kids gathered while their parents were at prayer.

The police have yet to comment. A stupid and despicable, but not life threatening, isolated incident best left without the publicity that these people seek.

Whether or not the person or people call themselves Republicans is not known.

a car, letter or bus bombing, it is still an act of stupidity, hatred and -- especially after our "Dear Leadership" had passed and touted the power of the Patriot act -- qualifies as a terrorist act.

So, while it wasn't as bad as spraying a more dangerous chemical or biological substance, it can still be treated as extremely serious. And I think it deserves such treatment and outrage -- our nation has a history of violence and a tendency to overlook it until it gets nearly (or completely) out of hand.

Hence, we should nip this in the bud before it blooms and cross-pollinates.

..not that I'm ungrateful that it was merely pepper spray, mind you. I'm glad that reports are coming in of no serious injury, but the psychological trauma and damage is still pretty severe -- as evidenced by the HuffPo article cited early on in the links. To instill and inspire that sort of mental and emotional anguish in children is unforgivable, particularly when they came to this country under the auspices of a more positive reputation that we obviously can no longer sustain. (At least, not until there are major changes in government over here, and a populace more resistant to such manipulation and stupidity.)

My only concern when I read the DKos article was that, beautifully written though it was, the emotional level expressed in that diary is a precious commodity and, if we are not to exhaust ourselves or dissipate it, we are forced by all the wrongs around us to make an uncomfortable measure of relativity of outrage.

The group that produced and distributed the DVD that is believed to have acted as a catalyst -- with 28 million of them distributed throughout the week in battleground states -- is a Republican-leaning organization, hence believed to have done this partly out of political motivation to use fear to manipulate those easily spooked into voting McCain/Republican.

The group is rather shady and has apparently not filed several key documents that would give away its supporters, even tho they are required to by law.

There is certainly a coincidence in timing. It is at the moment, however, only the supposition of the diarist that there is any connection.

Gee, I must seem cold to you and uncaring. I'm not. I share your disgust. If a diary hits the top of the DKos list, however, I would prefer a response based on hard fact just as much as the equally important emotion.

In a sense. I feel protective of those who read DKos who have a despair level and depression that also requires our support. This may become important over the next few months as the economic cycle worsens.
