Another Very Troubling Extremely Tragic Incident

There's an Extremely Tragic episode of the possible results of serving in Iraq playing out in Caldwell County NC.

Not much known as yet, just one police officer killed, another shot three times but saved by his bulletproof vest, the cop killed was shot in the head according to reports.

This is all that's out right now:

This from the Charlotte Observer:

Deputy killed, another injured
More than 150 officers search for Iraq War vet after a Caldwell County shooting police say was an ambush.

Friday's shooting would appear to be the latest in a string of violent incidents involving veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Earlier this year, The New York Times highlighted 121 cases where those veterans committed a killing in the United States, or were charged with one, after their return from war. In many of those cases, the newspaper reported, combat trauma and the stress of deployment appear to have set the stage for the violence.

And this from a local TV station, no video report:

Those who know the suspect say they're surprised by this, but they're being cautious nonetheless. "I would never have expected this. He's well-rounded, nice guy.

Thanks, Jim, for keeping us informed.

This will likely end up on the Timelines, as well, as one of the PTSD events.

:(

Are that he took off on a horse after the shootings, a hundred or so cops are searching for him, but from what I could gather from the televised report he's well trained so this could get uglier, Hope Not!!

And no one seems to hear the answer. Again

Authorities are still searching for 32-year-old Skip Brinkley in connection with the shooting. Detectives say he was just out of the military and also goes by the name Larry Wayne Brucke Jr.

Caldwell killing suspect known as peaceable
Iraq war vet was building a house and was considered a ‘perfect neighbor.'

Brinkley, an S.C. native who recently changed his name from Larry Wayne Brucke Jr., had given neighbors no inkling of a violent nature.

In fact, his neighbor across the road, Elaine Hatley, said he wanted to shield his family from harm, recently mentioning to her that he didn't want anybody hunting on his property “because he didn't want guns around his children.”

News of the shootings stunned Hatley. “I never saw this side of him,” she said, “and as far as I was concerned, he was the perfect neighbor to me.”
